New brownie-inspired cookie joins favorites in annual Girl Scout Cookie sale

The Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana kicked off cookie season Dec. 15.

Local Girl Scouts remain dedicated to giving back to communities through the Gift of Caring program.

During the 2020-2021 cookie season, girls throughout the area donated more than 230,000 packages of cookie boxes to essential workers, Armed Forces and local nonprofits.

This program is particularly important to 14-year-old top cookie seller Giada Gambatese, who sold 22,000 boxes last year, all benefiting the Gift of Caring program.

Giada, who lives in Chicago, participated in the program for eight years and has been the top seller for the past six years, noting her grandfather, a former Marine, as her biggest supporter.

"Our Girl Scout Cookies are one of life's simple pleasures - when our first responders receive cookies through the Gift of Caring program, it brings them joy and comfort knowing people care," said Nancy Wright, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana.

Girl Scout Cookie season continues through March 21.

Consumers can support Girl Scouts by purchasing the new Adventureful cookie (a brownie-inspired cookie with caramel-flavored crème and a hint of sea salt) as well as classics like Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Trefoils, and more in a few different ways:

The Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana serves 245 communities in six Illinois counties (Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kankakee, Lake, and Will) and four Indiana counties (Jasper, Lake, Newton, and Porter).
