Schaumburg Youth Orchestra awards scholarships

The Schaumburg Youth Orchestra awarded scholarships to the following outstanding students, with the recipients being selected from the program's four performing ensembles:

• Sabina Fijo: $300, cello, Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, homeschool

• Charles Lin: $300, violin, Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, James B. Conant High School

• Danniel O'Connell: $300, cello, Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, Wheaton Warrenville South High School

• Hannah Tomita: $300, oboe, Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, Hoffman Estates High School

• Maggie Hershey: $200, violin, Schaumburg Youth Concert Orchestra, Maine South High School

• Hayden Williams: $300, cello, Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, Palatine High School

• Leroy Jing: $300, violin, Schaumburg Youth Concert Orchestra, Pleasant Hill Elementary School

• Dylan Lin: $200, violin, Schaumburg Youth String Ensemble, Bartlett Elementary School

• Narin Kim: $300, clarinet, Schaumburg Youth Concert Orchestra, Robert Frost Junior High School

• Sajani Achanta: $175, violin, Schaumburg Youth Sinfonia Strings, Westfield Middle School

• Nathan Fernando Munoz-Lo: $200, cello, Schaumburg Youth Concert Orchestra, Maine South High School

• Maile Fidale: $250, violin, Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, James B. Conant High School

• Daichi Kurita: $250, violin, Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, James B. Conant High School

• Tyler Lieu: $250, violin, Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, Buffalo Grove High School

• Mylee Hickman: $175, violin, Schaumburg Youth Sinfonia Strings, Dooley Elementary School

In addition to the village-sponsored scholarships, three graduating high school seniors each received a special scholarship worth $500. Matthew Ritterbusch of Palatine, a trombone player from Palatine High School, received the Case-Kelliher Scholarship, sponsored by Schaumburg Village Trustee George Dunham.

Violinist Makiba Kurita, an Elk Grove Village resident and Conant graduate, received the Ruth Park Senior Music Scholarship, sponsored by the Prairie Center Arts Foundation.

James Preucil, a Conant graduate from Schaumburg, received the Leo Chan Alumni Award, sponsored by former youth orchestra member Leo Chan.

The Schaumburg Youth Orchestra is a program of the village of Schaumburg.
