Skarr, Birt for COD board

Daily Herald Editorial Board

As we have said in this space in the past, we believe the College of DuPage is moving strongly in the right direction.

Five candidates are running for two COD board positions that will be key in continuing that progress while controlling costs.

For one seat, we endorse Naperville resident Michael Skarr, CEO of Choose DuPage; he strikes us as easily the strongest candidate, both in terms of resume and perspective. For the other position, we endorse Erin Birt, a thoughtful Wheaton attorney who understands the college from the student’s perspective.

We’re also impressed by retired teacher Dianne McGuire of Naperville and the collaborative approach she advocates. We encourage her continued involvement with COD even if she’s not elected.

Two other candidates — James Long of Downers Grove and Max Bochmann of Naperville — seem capable but with resumes that are less well rounded.
