CLC gallery announces winning artists in 33rd Annual Recent Works exhibit

Eleven Lake County artists won $2,000 in awards at the Oct. 4 opening reception of the 33rd Annual Recent Works exhibit at the College of Lake County's Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art. The exhibit will be on view in the gallery through Nov. 10. The following winners were selected by jurors Winifred Godfrey and Bill Frederick, artists from Chicago.

Two Awards of Excellence ($300 each) to Brad Coleman of Lake Forest for “Field Painting with Vessels” and Ed Watson of Buffalo Grove for “Thresholds Study #7.”

Three CLC Purchase Awards, with funds sponsored by CLC Foundation to Marshall Philyaw of Round Lake Beach for “Dinner at Eight,” Nancy S. Ward of Ingleside for “Self Portrait with Forks” and Michele Zimmerman of Grayslake for “Stripped and Searching.” These works will become part of CLC's permanent art collection.

Special Award of Merit of $150, sponsored by the Antioch Fine Arts Foundation, to Thom Kapheim of Gurnee for “Strike Zone.”

Awards of Merit of $100 to Larry Lemon of Antioch for “Mountain High” and to Marshall Philyaw of Round Lake Beach for “Dinner at Eight.”

Honorable Mentions of $50 to Amy Robillard of Libertyville for “Abbey, Profile,” Joan E. Robertson of Wauconda for “Lookin for Gold” and Dean Habegger of Libertyville for “Intertwined” (Ali O'Brien, donor, in memory of Orva Vaupel).

Selected from 260 entries, the artwork in the exhibit includes 59 pieces in various media, created by artists who live or work in Lake County. Many of the artworks are for sale.

The Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art on the Grayslake Campus is a project of the College of Lake County Foundation and is located at 19351 W. Washington St. Established by the College of Lake County Foundation in 1981, the gallery is committed to displaying the works of Illinois artists and increasing the visibility of nationally known artists in Lake County.
