Waste Management's Bagster makes spring cleanup removal easier and less expensive

Spring doesn't officially arrive in the northern hemisphere until March 20, but the Midwest's mild winter already has spring cleanup projects in the works in the metropolitan Chicago area.

And Waste Management is now offering an innovative product to make hauling away all that cleanup and project debris even easier for homeowners and building managers and much less expensive than using large industrial waste boxes.

The Waste Management innovation: The Bagster®, Dumpster in a Bag®.

The Bagster® is a heavy-duty plastic disposal container that's perfect as an easy, cost-effective cleanup solution for simple projects such as remodeling, moving, and home cleanup. It provides a convenient means to dispose of wastes when a smaller debris container is called for. The Bagster® bag is made of a heavy-duty woven material that won't tear if punctured.

The versatile bag is the right size and strength for debris and household junk, replacing conspicuous steel industrial containers while still holding up to 3,300 pounds or three cubic yards of material. It is 8 feet long, 4 feet wide, and two and a half feet in height, large enough to hold sheets of plywood.

“We've found that consumers really appreciate how easy it is to purchase and use for home improvement projects,” said Dan Henry, who manages the Bagster® service for Waste Management in the Chicago area. “The public can simply purchase a Bagster® at local home improvement or hardware stores, and use it on their own timetable when it's convenient for them. When it's full, just give us a call and we'll pick it up.”

Homeowners and contractors can keep the bag as long as they need to complete their projects and then have it quickly removed by contacting Bagster® for collection.

Waste Management offers the service in Cook, DuPage, Lake, and Kane counties in the Chicago area.

Unlike those familiar large industrial waste boxes, the Bagster® is economical. It has a retail price of $29.95 in the Chicago area and a collection fee of $129, considerably less than that of larger industrial disposal boxes. Additional Bagsters® will be collected for $104 each if picked up at the same time.

The Bagster® can be purchased at local home improvement stories and a call to Waste Management ensures it is collected quickly. In the Chicago area, The Bagster® is available at The Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards, and select Ace and True Value hardware stores. It also is available through Amazon.com.

The Bagster®'s common uses include disposal of household junk and cleanup debris from home improvement projects. In Illinois, it cannot be used for the disposal of yard wastes, electronics, appliances, tires, food wastes, large tree stumps or toxic or hazardous wastes, which are not allowed in landfills.

“With more homeowners tackling home improvement projects themselves and contractors taking on smaller jobs to make ends meet, we saw a real opportunity to give our customers a more convenient and affordable alternative when an industrial waste box doesn't meet their need,” Henry said. “The Bagster® is our latest innovation in helping manage materials and waste more efficiently, enhancing our service offering for our customers.”
