ICHS Students Earn AP Scholar Awards for Academic Excellence

Five Immaculate Conception High School students qualified for the National AP Scholar Award in recognition of their exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement Exams. Four of the AP Scholars were 2011 graduates of ICHS and include Michael Bosworth (University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign), Matt Kremske (University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign), Kamila Kroczak (Loyola University), Michelle Navarrete (Loyola University). All four qualified for the AP Scholar Award by earning an average grade of at least 3 or higher on at least three AP Exams (based on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest). The three qualifying AP exams for all four of these students were AP English Literature and Composition, AP Calculus AB, and AP US History exams. In addition, ICHS senior Kyleen Lee has also earned AP Scholar recognition for recording qualifying scores on the AP US History, AP Calculus AB, and AP Biology exams. During her senior year at ICHS, Kyleen is taking AP English, AP Chemistry, and is taking Calculus II at Elmhurst College as a part of the ICHS Senior Option Program.

Currently, ICHS has students enrolled in AP courses in the areas of English, Calculus, Chemistry and US History, representing a total AP course enrollment of over 55 students. Through more than 30 different college-level courses and exams, AP provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to earn college credit or advanced placement and stand out in the college admissions process. Each exam is developed by a committee of college and university faculty and AP teachers, ensuring that these exams are aligned with the same high standards expected by college faculty at some of the nation's leading liberal arts and research institutions. AP is accepted by more than 3,800 colleges and universities worldwide for college credit, advanced placement, or both on the basis of successful AP Exam grades. Research consistently shows that AP students who score a 3 or higher on AP Exams (based on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest) typically experience greater academic success in college and higher graduation rates than students who do not participate in AP.
