Chicago Market Holds Steady in 4th place in Walgreens Fundraising Challenge in Support of Red Nose Day in the U.S

With less than one week remaining in the Red Nose Day fundraising campaign, Walgreen has released the results of its Every One Counts Hometown Challenge, which inspires friendly competition among top U.S. markets to help raise money to eliminate childhood poverty.

The current rankings have the Chicago area ranked #4 among 10 U.S. markets - deemed Walgreens 'Red Rally Markets' for their integral role in helping to rally their communities to help end child poverty.

Throughout the eight-week campaign, Red Rally Markets have gone nose-to-nose in a challenge to raise the most money for the Red Nose Day cause. The Chicago market, which first occupied the #6 spot, now holds steady at #4 for the second week, thanks to an increase in fundraising activity and Red Nose sales. With less than one week to go, Chicago-area residents are encouraged to support Red Nose Day by visiting their neighborhood Walgreens and purchasing a Red Nose or Red Nose Day merchandise.

Red Nose Day is the annual fundraiser to end childhood poverty. Since its inception in the U.S. in 2015, Red Nose Day has raised more than $100 million for global charities working to ensure children are safe, healthy, educated, and empowered. Several global charity partners operate here in the Chicago area, including Feeding America, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Laureus Sport for Good, and Children's Health Fund.

Walgreens will announce the winner of the Every One Counts Hometown Challenge following Red Nose Day on May 24th with a formal proclamation to the victorious city. That city will be designated as "Red Nose Day Hometown Hero" for the next 12 months.

Week six rankings of the Every One Counts Hometown Challenge are:

1. Atlanta, Ga.

2. Miami, Fla.

3. Washington, D.C.

4. Chicago

5. Phoenix, Ariz.

6. Los Angeles

7. Seattle, Wash.

8. Philadelphia, Penn.

9. Newark, N.J./New York City

10. Houston, Texas

The weekly rankings are compiled using store-level data for combined Red Nose Day sales (Red Noses and Red Nose Day related merchandise) across Walgreens store locations in designated Red Rally markets. Data for the progress report is analyzed at a geographic market level to measure total store performance of Red Nose Day sales.
