Girl Scouts announce cookie contract through 2018
Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois has entered into a new three-year contract with Little Brownie Bakers of Louisville, Kentucky, continuing a partnership that began in 2010-11.
Currently, two commercial bakers are licensed to produce Girl Scout Cookies - ABC Bakers and LBB. The decision to remain with LBB was made by a committee consisting of local Girl Scout volunteers and GSNI business staff.
LBB has been baking Girl Scout Cookies for over 35 years and is licensed by Girl Scouts of the USA to provide eight varieties of cookies for the Girl Scout Cookie Program including Samoas, Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Do-si-dos, and Trefoils.
In 2015, Girl Scouts of the USA worked with LBB to launch the revolutionary Digital Cookie platform allowing Girl Scouts to set up their own personalized sales Web pages, take credit card payments, and ship cookies directly to their customers. The company also added two new cookies to the Girl Scout Cookie lineup - Rah-Rah Raisins and Toffee-tastic. Toffee-tastic is the first-ever gluten-free variety sold by Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois.
Why the Girl Scout Cookie Program Matters
The Girl Scout Cookie Program helps girls develop the five key leadership skills of goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics. Proceeds benefit girls in northern Illinois by supporting Girl Scout programs, camp scholarships, volunteer training, membership assistance, and outreach programs. Each troop also receives a portion of the proceeds as discretionary funds for troop activities.
