Andrea Lynn Cancer Fund hosting two great fundraisers this fall

Local charity Andrea Lynn Cancer Fund is hosting two great fundraising events this fall. The Fifth Annual Steve Jasker Memorial Golf Outing will tee off on Monday, September 30 at Village Links of Glen Ellyn, 485 Winchell Way, Glen Ellyn, at 10:00 a.m. With an entry fee of $125, golfers are entitled to light breakfast, complimentary range balls and putting green, 18 holes of golf (two-person scramble format), goodie bag, and post-golf reception and auction.

Golfers who sign up by September 13 will be entered into a raffle for a free foursome. Registration and additional event information are available on the Steve Jasker Memorial Golf Outing website at www.sjmgolf.org. All proceeds from this event benefit the Andrea Lynn Cancer Fund.

Runners and walkers will take their mark at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 13 for the Fifth Annual Pumpkin Stampede 5K run/walk, also benefiting the Andrea Lynn Cancer Fund. The Pumpkin Stampede takes place at Lippold Park in Crystal Lake and features awards for the overall male and female winner. Custom edals will be given to first, second, and third place male and female winners in each division. Registration is now open at www.pumpkinstampede.com; same-day registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. on race day.

In addition to the awards ceremony, post-race festivities include a DJ, complimentary snacks, and the opportunity to sign the “Who Do You Run For?” memorial banner, in honor of loved ones who have or are currently battling cancer.

More than one million people in the United States are diagnosed with cancer each year. The Andrea Lynn Cancer Fund focuses on the family, providing for an array of needs and support to those suffering with the hardships of cancer. Following diagnosis and throughout the battle against cancer, there are many obstacles that are often unknown and unmentioned, including the stress of treatment, care, or losing a loved one's income, that make dealing with cancer more difficult. The Andrea Lynn Cancer Fund strives to help with these burdens to get families back on track so they can spend more time focusing on their loved ones.

The Andrea Lynn Cancer Fund was established in 2006 in the memory of Andrea Lynn Beckwith, who lost her battle with colon cancer in 1993. Her children, Brent and Shane Beckwith and Karie Nash, along with a close-knit group of family, friends and supporters, head up the board of directors for the charity.
