Michael Browning Memorial Scholarship Run to Remember

The West Chicago FOP Lodge 85, in conjunction with the West Chicago Park District, is hosting the first Michael Browning Memorial Scholarship Run to Remember on April 20.

Michael Browning grew up in West Chicago. He graduated from the West Chicago Community High School in 1987. Michael attended the College of DuPage and majored in Criminal Justice. Michael dreamed of one day being a Police Officer in the city he grew up in and loved. He joined the West Chicago Police Department as a Police Cadet in 1988 and held that position until August 25, 1991 when he fulfilled his dream and took the oath to become a full-time police officer for the City of West Chicago.

Michael was killed in the line of duty on April 20, 1992 when he responded to the scene of a crime in progress. Michael was struck by the car that was being stolen from a local car dealership.

The Michael Browning Memorial Scholarship Run to Remember 5K run/walk begins and ends at Turner Elementary School, 750 Ingalton St. in West Chicago. The race circles through several streets in West Chicago including National St., Arbor, Hawthorne, Ingalton, Washington, and Fremont St. (streets used are subject to change).

The Michael Browning Memorial Scholarship Run to Remember 5K run/walk awards trophies to the top three finishers (male and female) in each of six age categories. Runner's times will be taken at the mile markers. Results will be posted after the race.
