Local chiropractors join overseas humanitarian effort
Doing its part to reach out to and support the less fortunate in the Dominican Republic, Chiros Care recently teamed together with ChiroMission for their September 2012 Mission Trip in a humanitarian effort to provide free chiropractic care to villagers and funds to help continue the construction of an orphanage for abandoned children.
Led by Chiro One Wellness Centers’ Doctors of Chiropractic and volunteers, representatives from Chiros Care Free Clinic traveled to the Dominican Republic and Haitian villages where they joined the ChiroMission effort to serve over 40,000 impoverished people in need. ChiroMissions’ September 2012 Mission Trip ran from September 26th through September 30th.
Donations were collected by participants to help continue building the Casa Tesoro de Dios- Treasure House of God Orphanage, also known as “the House that Chiropractic Built.” "If you give a little, and I give a little, together we can make a difference," stated Pastor Joel Pena, Servant Leader for the Casa Tesoro de Dios Orphanage. "I invite you to be a part of changing the world." The Casa Tesoro de Dios Orphanage currently houses 40 abandoned children and plans are currently underway to build a second floor to house 60 additional children. Over two tons for clothes, school supplies and toys were also donated during the mission trip to the orphanage and villagers in need.
Chiro One of Oak Brook Chiropractic Director, Dr. Jessica Basala, D.C. was one of 33 Doctors and volunteers representing Chiro One in the DR. “The kids of the Dominican Republic love getting their picture taken,” states Basala. “They love seeing their picture and getting fun shots with the kids is one of my favorite parts of the trip.”
Chiro One Wellness Centers donated $13,500 to the orphanage and was acknowledged by Pastor Joel and Sor Tedora Quezada, affectionately referred to as the “Mother Teresa” of the DR, at the Casa De Oracion which was used as the headquarters for the mission trip. More funds are needed to complete the concrete building that will house up to 100 children.
Chiro One Wellness Centers’ fundraising efforts to help build the orphanage were led by Dr. George Walker, D.C., Co-Director of Clinical Operations Chiro One Metro. “If what you do is in service of humanity, you will always be on purpose in life,” stated Walker.
