College of Lake County officials have reopened the Lakeshore Campus following three bomb scares Thursday morning.

Evelyn Schiele, CLC’s executive director of public relations and marketing, said the campus reopened at 2 p.m. but classes won’t resume until 4 p.m.

Schiele said no bomb was discovered at any of the three college buildings at 1 North, 33 North, and 111 North Genessee Street.

College officials, along with campus security and Waukegan Police, shut down and evacuated the three Waukegan campus buildings after the college received three bomb threats over six hours early Thursday, Schiele said.

The first bomb threat was called into the Waukegan Police Department about 1 a.m. Thursday, she said. Waukegan Police, along with CLC police and college officials determined that initial threat wasn’t credible and no action was taken, she added.

A second threat was called into Waukegan Police at 7:02 a.m., followed by a third threat recorded at 7:14 a.m., prompting officials to evacuate the facility and close the structures, Schiele said.

Police from Waukegan and the college visually checked the three Waukegan buildings before bomb dogs were brought in for a more thorough sweep.

The dogs and humans did not discover anything, she said.

All other CLC campuses remained open and were unaffected during the bomb threat, she said.
