ECC's 'Welcome Wednesdays':

Elgin Community College offers Welcome Wednesdays the first Wednesday of each month. The sessions include an overview of the college's programs and services, a tour and an opportunity to talk with the recruitment staff. Suicide group to meet:

Attempters' of Suicide support group meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Stone Manor, 528 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31), Batavia. It is sponsored by Suicide Prevention Services. Call (630) 482-9696, or visit spsfv.org.

'Ask a Lawyer' for free:

County road repairs:

Kane County has begun crack-sealing on several roads. The work is expected to be finished by August. Intermittent single-lane closures during daylight hours will be required. Roads being repaired are Burlington Road, from Route 47 to the CC&P Railroad Crossing; Burlington from French Road to east of Plank Road; McGough Road from Route 64 to Peplow Road; Keslinger Road from Route 47 to Dauberman Road; Keslinger west of Randall Road to Brundige Road; West County Line Road from Perry Road to Main Street; and Meredith Road from Route 64 to Keslinger. Blackberry Township Assessor Uwe Rotter will present a taxpayer workshop this summer to explain the property tax cycle, how assessments are developed, how to appeal an assessment, and what the Kane County Board of Review and the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board are.
