Lakeside Pavilion summer series wraps up with jazz, Motown

The McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn, wraps up the 2019 Lakeside Pavilion Free Outdoor Summer Series concerts with The Joey DeFrancesco Trio, with special guest Bobby Broom, Thursday, Aug. 8, and "Magic of Motown" Friday, Aug. 9.

It will be a first-time meeting of jazz organist Joey DeFrancesco and Chicago's own jazz guitar ace Bobby Broom when they take the Pavilion stage Aug. 8.

The reigning master of the "B-3" sound, organist DeFrancesco helped launch a jazz organ renaissance in the late 1980s when he first gained prominence touring with Miles Davis. Joining his trio will be Broom, offering up his soulful jazz guitar wizardry to create a very special evening.

This performance caps the 2019 three-concert Thursday evening WDCB Live Jazz Concert Series at the Lakeside Pavilion.

"Magic of Motown" took the stage by storm in its first Lakeside Pavilion appearance in 2015. All the hits, glittering costumes, dazzling dance routines and outstanding musicianship in this live concert spectacular had the audience clapping, dancing and singing along.

Now, by popular demand, "Magic of Motown" returns Aug. 9 with the e harmonies and smooth moves made famous by the Temptations, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind, & Fire and more.

Audience members for this concert are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to this concert to benefit the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry and COD Student Fuel Pantry.

Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. "COD's Got Talent" student talent competition winners will be opening for each concert at 7:15 p.m. Both concerts will take place rain or shine.

In the case of inclement weather, concerts will be moved indoors to the Belushi Performance Hall and notice will be posted on the MAC's website, www.AtTheMAC.org.

Attendees are encouraged bring a blanket or lawn chair. Seating begins at 6 p.m., prior to any evening event.

Concessions available for purchase on-site include burgers, Chicago-style hot dogs, desserts, coffee, popcorn, ice cream, wine, beer and soda. Outside alcohol is not permitted onto the property. Neither are coolers, kegs, umbrellas, tents and skateboards.
