College of DuPage's ninth and final Food Truck Rally and Sunset 5K set for Oct. 5

College of DuPage will host the ninth and final annual Food Truck Rally and Sunset 5K, Presented by DuPage Medical Group, from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, on the college's Glen Ellyn campus. A VIP hour will be held from 1 to 2 p.m.

The event will include activities for the entire family, such as a Touch-A-Truck lot, Kid Zone and the 100-Yard Youth Dash.

The Food Truck Rally will feature cuisine from 17 local eateries, including Cupcakes for Courage, Best Truckin' BBQ, Toasty Cheese and more. VIP Food Truck Rally passes are available and allows for early entrance at 1 p.m., including reserved parking.

Race registration remains open for the Sunset 5K, which will begin at 4:30 p.m. on COD's track and follow a USA Track and Field-certified course on campus.

Register by Sunday, Sept. 29, to be guaranteed a runner T-shirt.

Event attendees will also have the opportunity to win a variety of prizes, including an LG 43-inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV from State Farm, a Vitamix Blender from Oak Brook Medical Group and $50 in game play at Topgolf.

The 100-Yard Youth Dash will begin at 3 p.m., with $25 Visa gift cards awarded to the fastest girl and boy in each of three age divisions - 4 to 5, 6 to 7 and 8 to 9.

All award winners will be announced on stage during a ceremony at 6 p.m.

Kid Zone will feature a Touch-A-Truck event, where emergency vehicles, tow trucks antique tractors and more will be on hand for children to experience up close. Kid Zone will also include games, face painting and a Parade of Trucks at 7 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships for COD students. Each of the 15 high school districts served by COD has a dedicated fund for their graduates who choose to attend the college.

Participants who register for the 5K or 100-Yard Youth Dash can designate their race fees to the high school district of their choice. The deadline for students to apply for the scholarship is Monday, Sept. 30.

"The college has received so much support from the community for this annual event," said COD Community Relations Coordinator Ami Chambers. "New and returning sponsors come forward every year, and race participants love that their registration fee goes toward scholarships that ease the burden of student loans."
