100 degree days are here: Help needed: Air Conditioning Units and Fans
The Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) of Carol Stream is looking to the generosity of local citizens to help facilitate the needs of poverty-stricken senior citizens living in the Kane and DuPage counties. Some of the items which HSP has identified a particularly immediate need for in accordance with the danger of the extreme summer heat are window air conditioners and fans. In addition, HSP is also seeking the donation of items such as mini fridges, microwaves, silverware, vacuum cleaners, coffee makers, shopping baskets with wheels and mattresses.
Even though the 120 seniors who are enrolled in HSP's Senior Citizen Project program receive a sizable monthly delivery consisting of life-saving groceries, personal items and paper products, many of these seniors have a dire need for other, larger items. These senior citizens depend upon the generosity of kind donors to contribute these items, thus improving their quality of life and providing a peace of mind. Items collected from HSP's senior summer wish list will then immediately be distributed to the impoverished senior citizen who submitted the request, providing comfort and essential household items to seniors who would otherwise be incapable of providing such items for themselves. With the donation of these items, some well-deserving local seniors will be able to live better and with more ease.
Anyone who would be interested in making a donation should please contact HSP at:

About The Humanitarian Service Project
HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane Counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,600 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides monthly food deliveries of 90 pounds including fresh produce, frozen meats, non-perishables, paper products and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 900 children. Feed the Kids program provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
