UPS donates money to Humanitarian Service Project

The UPS of Carol Stream has granted the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) $800 which will sponsor a needy senior within the charity's Senior Citizen Project (SCP). Since October 2008, UPS has been partnering with HSP's non-for-profit charity, located in Carol Stream, by volunteering their time to the charity's various projects. They have generously taken the time to volunteer many hours in which they have sorted fresh produce and non-perishable items and prepared large boxes of food that are provided to those in need, who participate in the Senior Citizen and Feed the Kids Projects.

Nourishing food is only one of the benefits that serve the 120 needy seniors of the Senior Citizen Project. UPS's dedication has also allowed the project to contribute to the seniors other needs such as personal care items and monthly assortments of paper products. Karole Kettering, Executive Director of HSP says, “The donations and volunteer help we have received from UPS have shown how considerate they are about helping the community. We are overjoyed to have them working with us to help these deserving seniors, which has empowered us to make a difference in their lives”

Not only has UPS been able to allocate their time to help the needy seniors within the community, every fifty hours of volunteer work they complete gives HSP the opportunity to qualify for a grant of $1,000. These grants contribute to the precise project in which UPS chooses.

About The Humanitarian Service Project

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane Counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,600 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 900 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
