COD deannexation a terrible decision

The College of DuPage board made a terrible decision when it voted to deannex from the village of Glen Ellyn. If these seven board members had more wisdom, experience and understanding of higher education, they would understand that town/gown relationships are always complex, but that this personality-driven feud would fade over time.

It is a shortsighted, insular decision and it will have a negative impact on students, teachers and the college community for a long time. It is a shame that these board members have agreed to such a poorly conceived approach to resolving these issues. The College — and its students — would benefit from improved oversight in general, as well as continuous community involvement and scrutiny of its construction decisions.

This move to deannex raises serious questions about the extent to which this board and its president resist accountability and transparency at every turn. COD will regret this decision for a long time to come. I am a teacher at the college and I am gravely concerned about how this will impact my students and their experience at this college (not to mention how this terrible decision will affect their access to working plumbing and Internet services while on campus).
