UPS Holds Faculty Event To Deliver $800 to Sponsor a Senior in Humanitarian Service Project's Program

The UPS located in Carol Stream has kindly helped out the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) by raising $800 to sponsor a senior in the organization's Senior Citizen Project. UPS raised the money by doing Mother's Day baskets, coin tosses, chili cook-off's, a bags game toss, Valentines day baskets and many more exciting fundraisers with full-on employee participation to help out a senior in need.

By sponsoring a senior, UPS was able to provide nutritional food every month out of the year to a needy senior in the DuPage and Kane counties. UPS has helped HSP in numerous ways since 2008, and this year their donation was also an enormous help to the organization. Karole Kettering, executive director of HSP said, “The donations and volunteer help we have received from UPS have shown how conscious they are about helping the community. We are overjoyed to have them working with us to help these deserving seniors.”

UPS initially contributed to HSP by volunteering for their Children's Birthday Project. They also have helped wrap and sort gifts and hosted school supply drives. UPS associates have been loyal volunteers and the company has provided HSP with substantial grants to fund other programs benefitting needy children and families. Kyle Speirs UPS's Human Resource and Dan Sauer UPS's Neighbor-to-Neighbor chair said, “When we first became involved with HSP in 2008 we were impressed by their organization and passion for this cause. It's a great feeling to know that the money we raise and hours we volunteer are helpful to them and we would love to continue to work with them.”

The 120 impoverished seniors in HSP's Senior Citizens Project receive monthly deliveries of 90 lbs. of groceries that include a variety of frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products, in addition to fresh fruits and vegetables. The seniors also receive a monthly “Secret Pal” gift and Holiday Meal provided by HSP's volunteers.

Last year during the Christmas Offering Project, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce during the summer months.
