COD, AALR host 'Basketball Day' April 30

College of DuPage and the African American Leadership Roundtable will host “It's On! Basketball Day” from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at the College's Physical Educational Building Arena.

The fundraiser will start with a basketball camp for youths, age 8 and older, teens and adults led by former NBA player Mike Robinson, president and founder of In the Paint Basketball, an organization that provides both athletic and life-skill training for young people.

Participants from the basketball clinic will then compete in free-throw and three-point contests, followed by a Bitty Ball full-court game, complete with music and half-time entertainment. The afternoon will wrap up with the “Big Game,” with teams made up of COD faculty, AALR and In the Paint members.

“This is going to be an incredibly good time, and we'll also raise some money and increase awareness in the process,” Robinson said. “We're hoping everyone comes out to enjoy the day.”

A lifelong Chicagoan, Robinson was an All-City and All-State basketball player in high school and a Junior College All-American while attending College of DuPage. In 1981, Robinson was drafted by the Utah Jazz and went on to play professionally for eight seasons in European basketball leagues. The founder of Next Level Coaching, Robinson combines basketball coaching and motivational/life coaching skills to help athletes perform at their highest levels.
