College of DuPage meeting Friday, Saturday

College of DuPage trustees will discuss a $415 million capital improvement plan at a special workshop Friday night, officials said.

No action is expected to be taken at the meeting, planned for 6 p.m. Friday. A second, closed-door session is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday. Both are being held at the college's Naperville location, 1223 Rickert Drive.

Both meetings are open to the public, but the board plans to eat dinner at the start of Friday's session. The board is not required to state the reason for its executive session on Saturday.

On the table Friday is the college's master plan for its main campus in Glen Ellyn, which outlines $415 million in capital projects.

The college board's regular meetings do not fall on weekends, but Joseph Moore, vice president of external relations, said the workshop is part of “a routine our board goes through to stay abreast of issues and to be prepared for items that come before them over the coming year.”

The master plan includes several projects that will be funded through a $168 million tax extension approved by voters last month.

Among them is a $25 million Homeland Security Education Center to train paramedics, police and firefighters, and a $15 million parking structure.

Moore said the board members agreed to meet on Friday night and Saturday morning to avoid conflicts with their day jobs.

The next regular meeting is 7 p.m. Monday at the main campus, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.
