Face challenges with greater effort
I live in Los Angeles, and have no business to comment about the College of DuPage's expansion plans, opposed by the Daily Herald's editorial staff. Yet I am writing these few lines in support of this expansion.
I spent a weekend in Glen Ellyn and visited three churches and a Muslim mosque in front of St Peter's church. I was quite moved that the community takes deep interest in education and supports many students in their pursuit of higher learning. The female administrator of St Peter's church related that their church offered facilities for Friday prayers to the Muslims for over two years when their Mosque was under construction. A picture-perfect presentation of Jesus saying, “Love thy neighbor.”
The Muslim clergy, Imam Kauser, stated that on Nov. 21 their mosque is holding a symposium on the subject of promoting peace in the community where leaders from 10 churches, synagogues and temples will share their thoughts. What a noble idea indeed. The passion of advance learning is rampant in this community.
The Herald's editor wrote: “It's an attractive idea, from an institution that manages its money well and plays an important role in the community. Then they state, “ While we like the idea, we recommend voting no.“
There is a famous saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” We should face the economic challenges with greater efforts.
First, I would suggest that the college should add a large hall in their McAninch Arts Center that can be used as a rental facility for religious, political and social events, thus augmenting their revenues. The Herald can conduct a survey and review the entire vision of the college and then support it.
