College of DuPage to vote on tax question

The College of DuPage board of trustees is expected to vote Aug. 9 on whether to go forward with a Nov. 2 ballot question asking voters to maintain the current property tax rate to help finance a $168 million capital improvement plan.

The board is holding a special meeting at 7 p.m. The tax money would be spent on renovations of older buildings, construction of new buildings and possibly the addition of more parking.

Instead of seeing tax bills decrease, property owners would maintain the current funding level for an additional 20 years, COD officials said. The owner of a $300,000 home would pay about $30 less on the college's portion of a property tax bill if the measure fails, officials said.

The district's taxing boundaries take up most of DuPage County and small patches of Cook and Will counties.
