Geneva tree disposal

Trash haulers will make their final pickup of natural Christmas trees for disposal this week in Geneva. The service is free. Place trees at the curb by 7 a.m. on your normal garbage pickup day. Wreaths and roping will not be accepted, and should be placed in the regular trash.

Family movie night

A family movie night is planned at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22 at Harrison Street Elementary School, 201 N. Harrison St., Geneva. "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" will be shown. Families can make cardboard cars in which to watch the movie. Refreshments will be provided, but you can also bring your own. The fee is $5 per child when you preregister and $6 per child at the door. Call (630) 232-4542 or visit genevaparks.org to register.

Music groups seek members

The College of DuPage Chamber Orchestra and the DuPage Chorale, a community chorus based at COD, are seeking new members for the spring semester. Both are offered as one-credit classes. The orchestra, which includes both students and community members, has openings in several sections, particularly in strings. Orchestra members rehearse weekly, with the next rehearsal scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25 at the McAninch Arts Center at the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd. Those interested should call orchestra Director Dan Pasquale D'Andrea at (630) 322-9187 before the Jan. 25 rehearsal. The DuPage Chorale requires no audition, and all voice types and ages are welcome. Members rehearse from 7 to 9:50 p.m. Mondays at the McAninch Arts Center. Citizens Police Academy

The North Aurora Police Department will offer its Citizens Police Academy at 7 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 18 to April 22. It will cover hiring procedures, traffic law, patrol procedures, gang intervention, crime scene processing, simulated firearms training and more. Residents 18 and older are eligible. Pick up an application at the police department, 25 E. State St., or contact Officer Stecklein at (630) 897-8705, e-mail rstecklein@vil.north-aurora.il.us.

Aurora offers fest funding

Aurora is accepting applications to provide festival and special event funding to neighborhood and community groups. Completed applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15 to the mayor's office of special events, 5 E. Downer Place, or by calling (630) 844-4731. Call the office for complete guidelines.
