CLC dance troupe to present Winter Dance Concert

The annual Winter Dance Concert will be presented by the College of Lake County Dance Department's Prairie Spirits Dance Troupe at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the Grayslake campus.

The program will explore contemporary dance works created by Midwest choreographers, according to Dr. Valerie Alpert, CLC dance professor and artistic director.

"Our journey will take us into the imagination of these artists to discover the possibilities of movement expression and explore contemporary dance," Alpert said.

Choreographers include Valerie Alpert, Kim Davis, Rebekah Fontane, Lamaiya Lancaster, Jeannine Potter, Rodney Veal and Tricia Zweier.

The cast features Laura Balinski, Kirsten Bank, Katya Bing, Kirsten Boi, Amy Cole, Josa Comstock, Kevin Farmer, Asia Fobbs, Ashley Hoffman, Carissa Holmes, Megan Iosue, Alana Johnson, Chris Kappil, Lamaiya Lancaster, Sue Lee, Suzanne Mena, Briana Montgomery, Becka Nieder, Carly Pini, Laurel Rockall, Sara Schoenberger, Emily Smith, Michelle Stone, Keiko Takahashi-Gundry and VADCO Members Matthew Kinney and André Santiago.

The dialogue and program narration was written and will be performed by North Rory Homeward, a CLC theater student. The choreography is set to a wide variety of musical artists, including Lady Gaga, N'Diddio, Philip Glass, Armand Amar, Balmorhea, John Tavener, Blake William, Steve Reich, Aretha Franklin, So Percussion, Goldmund, Elias Arizcaren/Cello Octet Conjunto Iberico, and Lady and Gustavo Santaolalla.

Alpert has performed, choreographed and taught dance both nationally and internationally. She established VADCO/Valerie Alpert Dance Company, sharing her passion for dance with communities both locally and nationally.

Tickets are $10 for regular admission; $8 for CLC/Senior/JLC Subscribers; and $3 for children under 12 (does not include $2 JLC facility fee). Other fees may apply to Internet purchases.
