Boys soccer/Fox Valley roundup

Carlos Avina scored a first-half goal off an assist from Zack Audy as Bartlett’s boys soccer team won its first game of the season Saturday, beating Lisle 1-0 in the final round of the Pepsi Showdown.

Justin Busch made 3 saves in goal in registering the shutout for the Hawks (1-10).

Streamwood 3, Leyden 2: Ivan Rosales scored twice in the second half as the Sabres came back from 1 2-1 halftime deficit to beat Leyden in the Pepsi Showdown. Rosales’ game-winner came with 25 minutes left to play. Mario Rodriguez scored the other goal for Streamwood, which won its third straight. He also had an assist, as did Alajandro Avalos and Christian Vences. Bryan Contreras made 6 saves in goal for the Sabres (8-4).

Metea Valley 2, Huntley 1: Lucas Baker scored Huntley’s only goal in this Pepsi Showdown loss. Tommy Helm made 3 saves in the net for the Red Raiders (9-2).

Hampshire splits: After winning Friday night, the Whip-Purs came back and beat Rockford Christian 2-1 before falling to Champaign Central 4-0 in the Hononegah Invite. Daniel Rodriguez and Robert Lucio scored the goals in the overtime win over Rockford Christian and Andy Pederson had 9 saves. Against Champaign, Cesear Gomez had 5 saves for the Whip-Purs (2-6-1).

Jacobs splits: Tommy Gallagher scored Jacobs’ only goal in a 3-1 loss to Dunlap at the Hononegah Invite. Johan Wolf had 5 saves in goal for the Golden Eagles, who then came back and beat Hononegah 1-0 in overtime on a goal by Mike Mamola. Wolf had another 5 saves in goal for Jacobs (11-2) in the win.

CL South wins 2: The Gators registered a pair of 2-1 wins on PKs, one against Herset and the other against East Moline United and had a 3-0 record at the Hononegah Invite but missed out on the championship round by 1 point. Michael Conley scored the pre-PK goal for Crystal Lake South in the win over Hersey and Steven Follmer had 5 saves. Sam Murdock scored against East Moline United and Follmer (5 saves) shared time in the net with Gus Alvarez (4 saves) for the Gators (9-5).

St. Edward loses 2: St. Edward fell 3-0 to Noble Street Charter and 2-0 to Belvidere North at the Hononegah Invite. Matt Hesch (8 saves) and John Gotheridge (7 saves) worked the net for the Green Wave (4-10).

Elgin 8, Harvest Christian 1: Edgar Zavala had a hat trick and Juan Flores added 2 goals to lead Elgin to a nonconference win. Emanuel Sanchez, Josue Chavez and Marco Contreras each had single knocks for the Maroons (5-3-1), who had Flavio Jaimes, Jorely Carnargo and Eleno Montes each make 3 saves in goal. Stuart Wolff scored for Harvest Christian and Patrick McGuire made 9 saves in goal for the Lions (3-5-2).

Westminster Christian 1, Cornerstone Christian 0: Nick Gnan scored the only goal of the game off an assist from Joey Tyrell to lead the Warriors to a nonconference win. Sam Carani made 3 saves in goal for Westminster (7-2-1).
