Girls volleyball/Fox Valley roundup

At Somonauk: Westminster Christian took second place at the Somonauk tournament, losing to Rosary but then beating Seneca, Hinckley-Big Rock, Somonauk and Leland. Claire Speweik (13 aces, 27 digs, 38 kills), Cara Tyrell (9 aces, 27 digs, 18 kills), Savannah Dutcher (17 kills, 18 solo blocks, 9 assisted blocks), Taylor Pedersen (14 aces, 11 digs), Elizabeth Farwell (39 assists, 7 digs) and Courtney Gnan (33 assists) led the Warriors (8-1).

At West Aurora: South Elgin tied all 3 of its pool play matches then won the bronze pool championship at the West Aurora tournament. The Storm split with Sycamore, Streamwood and Plainfield East in pool play then beat Marengo and Evergreen Park in bronze championship play. Ashley Oandasan (23 kills, 22 digs), Corbin Kehe (100 assists, 24 digs), Allison Osborne (32 kills), Karlee Bradley (24 digs) and Rachel Murray (27 digs) led South Elgin (2-1-3).

At Willowbrook: After dropping pool play matches to Addison Trail, West Chicago and Coal City on Friday, short-handed Larkin came back Saturday and lost to Wheaton Warrenville South before finishing the tournament with a win over Walther Lutheran. Larkin (4-4) played without starters Alyssa McGraw and Diana Castillo Friday and without Brianna Stewart for both days. McGhee and Castillo each had 28 assists Saturday, while Olivia Kofie (8 kills, 15 digs, 6 blocks) and Anna Gaston (8 kills, 12 digs) also contributed.

At Timothy Christian: St. Edward took fourth place and Harvest Christian finished fifth at the Timothy Christian tournament. St. Edward defeated Aurora Christian and U-High but lost to Westmont in pool play. The Green Wave then lost to Immaculate Conception and Westmont on Saturday. Mallory Gross (4 kills, 24 digs, 78 assists, 7 aces), Maria Von Ahnen (7 kills), Rena Ranallo (29 kills, 53 digs), Cecile Rapp (8 kills), Shannon Igelski (36 kills, 7 aces) and Allison Kruk (64 gigs) led St. Edward (5-7) for the weekend.

Harvest Christian beat Round Lake but lost to IC and Timothy Christian in pool play then beat U-High and Aurora Christian on Saturday. Jordan Sollers (13 kills, 25 assists, 4 digs, 8 aces), Sydney Doby (17 kills, 5 aces), Katelyn Floyd (21 assists) and Erica Manusos (9 kills, 11 digs, 9 aces) led the Lions on Saturday.
