Girls volleyball / Lake County roundup

No underclassmen saw the floor for Libertyville’s girls volleyball on senior night, so the Wildcats’ Class of 2011 showed off its depth.

Eileen Knauff clobbered 10 kills and collected 13 digs, as Libertyville defeated Round Lake 25-22 25-17 in the teams’ North Suburban Conference crossover Tuesday night.

Libertyville (14-5), which has won 13 of its last 15 matches, struggled early and was out of sync against the pesky Panthers. But strong net play eventually allowed the hosts to pull away.

Kerry Risley and Alli Gattone added 7 and 5 kills, respectively, for Libertyville, while Nicole Kruckman and Katie Waehner each had three.

Molly Moon, starting again in place of Michigan-recruit Cindy Zhou (shoulder), was 52-of-53 setting with 28 assists.

“It was a great night to celebrate all our seniors,” Wildcats coach Greg Loika said. “It was their night.”

Lakes d. Warren: The Eagles picked up the North Suburban crossover win 25-13, 25-10.

Lakes (14-7) was led on offense by Emily Aigner (13-of-14 hitting, 7 kills), Sarah Horner (14-17, 7 kills) and Alex Silvola (10-11, 6 kills).

Stephanie Reed led the defense with 10 digs, and Rachel Sieracke was 53-of-54 setting with 20 assists.

Warren was paced by Stephanie Karlovics (2 kills, 3 blocks), Rachel Ziegler (26-of-26 setting, 4 assists) and Allie Goad (77 percent serve receive).

Lake Zurich d. North Chicago: Natalie Gora had 3 kills and 2 aces, and Layne Self slammed 3 kills, as well, as the Bears won the North Suburban crossover 25-9, 25-4.

Lake Zurich (14-5) also received 2 aces from Brianna Wold, 2 kills from Amanda Orchard and 7 assists from Kristen Walding (18-of-19 setting).

Zion-Benton d. Vernon Hills: The Cougars lost the North Suburban crossover 25-11, 25-21, despite 5 kills from Shannon Nugent.

Rachel Lira added 3 kills for Vernon Hills (12-8), while Megan Meline contributed 2 kills and 2 blocks. Sarah Lehman set 39 of 41 with 9 assists.

Stevenson d. Grant: Michelle Schroeder and Liza Pflugradt pounded 6 kills apiece, leading the Patriots to a 25-20, 25-7 win in North Suburban crossover action.

Schroeder also served 4 aces, while Pflugradt delivered a pair. Anne Geocaris added 4 kills for Stevenson (16-5), which played again with the injured Rachel Baader.

Mackenzie Kurth had 12 digs for the Patriots. Jamie Baranowski set 23 of 23 with 8 assists.

Grant was led by Beka Couch’s 4 kills and Scottley Sandnes’ 5 digs.

Lake Forest d. Wauconda: Erinn Hellweg’s 6 kills led the Bulldogs in their 25-19, 25-21 North Suburban crossover loss.

Megan Tallman had 5 kills, 6 assists and 8 digs for Wauconda (12-7). Susan Karhoff lofted 7 assists for the Bulldogs, while Becca Thiltgen contributed 7 digs.

Carmel d. Fenwick: Taylor Pippen, Jessie Wayland and Megan Mowery each had 7 kills in the Corsairs’ 26-24, 25-15 win in East Suburban Catholic Conference play.

Carmel Catholic (15-5) also received 8 blocks from Pippen, 10 digs and 4 aces from Caitlin Barry and 3 aces from Wayland.

Janelle DeWald and Mowery lofted 8 and 7 assists, respectively.

Grayslake North d. Woodstock North: Katie McGrath pounded 10 kills and served 2 aces, and Joanna Guhl and Kelsey Klausner added 7 and 6 kills, respectively, as the Knights pulled out a 25-14, 24-26, 25-10 win.

Jenni Babula contributed 5 kills, 3 blocks and 2 aces for Grayslake North (6-13, 3-3) in the Fox Valley Fox Division match. Lisa Lowry set 74 of 76 with 28 assists, and also had 2 aces and 11 digs. Kayla Huck chalked up 21 digs. Alaina Geissberger (2 kills, 2 blocks) contributed at the net as well.

Crystal Lake South d. Grayslake Central: Alex Dahlstrom had 6 kills and 2 aces for the Rams in their 25-22, 25-13 Fox Valley Fox defeat.

Klaudia Basierak added 3 kills and 2 aces for Grayslake Central (16-8, 4-2).

“We played really well in Game 1 — some outstanding volleyball,” Rams coach Jason Janczak said. “(Crystal Lake South) just wore us down in Game 2. Our defense was solid against a tough CL South team.”
