workNet DuPage offers free job training, virtual career coaching

DuPage County residents are invited to take advantage of free job training opportunities with workNet DuPage. Remote classes available.

workNet DuPage Career Center would like to remind residents of available free job training for laid-off or furloughed workers and individuals facing economic hardship.

Job training programs provide DuPage County residents with the skills they need to land new employment opportunities in high-growth fields.

The center continues to hold "From Layoff to Launch" informational webinars for laid-off and furloughed workers at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays. The next webinars will be Jan. 5, 12, 19 and 26. To sign up, visit www.worknetdupage.org/launch/.

Eligible individuals can select training programs in information technology, health care, digital marketing, trucking, manufacturing, and other fields to earn industry-recognized credentials at no cost to themselves. The cost of training is covered by federally funded grants of up to $10,000 per person. Many programs currently offer remote learning opportunities. Individuals collecting unemployment insurance can continue to do so while attending training.

workNet DuPage participants attend professional development programs and attain new certifications within a matter of months or even a few weeks.

In information technology, popular certifications include CompTIA, Cisco, Microsoft, cloud-based technology, big data, Java, .Net, Agile, e-commerce, PMP, Business Analysis, and more.

In health care, options include phlebotomy, EKG technician, patient care technician, certified nursing assistant, medical assistant, surgical technologist, emergency medical tech, licensed practical nurse, or registered nurse

In transportation, distribution and logistics, popular certifications include commercial driver's license, ASE-certified automotive technology programs, and supply chain management

In manufacturing, certifications include Computer Numerical Control (CNC); Swiss CNC; welding; industrial maintenance technician; and quality control.

The center also provides virtual career coaching services to clients pursuing training programs, including one-on-one mock interviews, resume reviews, and group workshops. Additionally, participants have access to supportive services such as rent assistance (including immediate back rent support).
