DuPage County approves $300,000 for flu vaccines for uninsured residents

Earlier this fall, the DuPage County Board approved spending $300,000 to partner with the DuPage Health Coalition to provide an influenza vaccination program for uninsured residents.

The DuPage Health Coalition has developed a program to work with qualified health care providers to administer the flu vaccine program.

Funding for the program will come out of the $161 million the county received from the federal government through the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).

Flu shot vouchers will be sent to individuals who request them (by email or mail). Vouchers can be redeemed at any DuPage County Walgreens until Dec. 31, while supplies last.

Information about the flu vaccination program is available at accessdupage.org/flu/.

In addition to the flu vaccine voucher program, several local Federally Qualified Health Centers are also offering flu vaccines to their uninsured patients. If you are a patient at Hamdard Center or VNA Health Care, instead of requesting a Walgreens voucher you can also just call your doctor's office and make an appointment for your flu shot. No voucher is required.

The DuPage Health Coalition also has partnered with local organizations to host flu clinics. Vouchers will be provided on-site, or get yours ahead of time at accessdupage.org/flu.
