Soil and Water Conservation District begins strategic planning process

The board of directors of the Kane-DuPage Soil & Water Conservation District recently decided to embark on a strategic planning process that will create a road map for their future.

The effort will begin this fall and wrap up by the end of the year.

The process will be facilitated by Dr. Alicia Schatteman, professor of public administration at Northern Illinois University who has assisted dozens of nonprofit and public organizations with strategic planning.

Gerard Fabrizius, current chairman of the district board, noted "we are excited to think broadly about the impact we believe the district could have in Kane and DuPage counties."

The first task will be to gather input from residents in Kane and DuPage counties on how the district currently serves their needs and ideas about the future.

The district will keep residents up to date via their website, newsletters and social media about the strategic planning process.

The Kane-DuPage Soil and Water Conservation District is one of 97 districts in the state of Illinois, established in 1937 as separate units of local government but do not levy taxes.

The district provides a variety of conservation and education programs and services.

The district is governed by a five-member board of directors elected by district residents and is funded in part by the Illinois Department of Agriculture as well as revenue from its various programs and services.
