Learn how to use newspapers as genealogical resource

The Fox Valley Genealogical Society will present "Read All About It! Newspapers as Genealogical Resource" from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St. in Naperville.

In Caron Primas Brennan's presentation, learn how to find and use newspapers to discover information about your ancestors as well as the times they lived in. Some of the items to be found in newspapers include obituaries, marriage and engagement announcements, birth announcements, legal cases, and ship passage information. Participants will learn how to find newspapers online, in libraries, and archives. They also will learn how to cite sources.

Brennan has been speaking at libraries and genealogical societies for over 10 years. A sixth-grade school project got her interested in researching her own family tree. She belongs to the Genealogical Speakers Guild and is a Professional Member of the Association of Professional Genealogists. She is currently Society Liaison for the Illinois State Genealogical Society; Facilitator for the Chicago Region of the Association of Professional Genealogists and Web Master for the Chicago Genealogical Society. She previously held Board positions at the Illinois State Genealogical Society, the Chicago Genealogical Society and the Computer-Assisted Genealogy Group of Northern Illinoi).
