Birthday Cakes 4 Free Sweetens Birthdays for Seniors
The DuPage/ Kane County Chapter of Birthday Cakes 4 Free has partnered with the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) of Carol Stream to provide birthday cakes for the needy senior citizens supported by HSP. The chapter donated five birthday cakes which were delivered to the seniors with February birthdays as part of HSP's monthly delivery to the seniors this past Saturday. Birthday Cakes 4 Free will be providing a birthday cake for all 120 needy seniors served through HSP's program.
The impoverished senior citizens in HSP's Senior Citizen Project receive monthly deliveries of 90 lbs. of groceries, which include various types of fresh produce, bread, frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products. The seniors also receive a monthly “Secret Pal” gift, a Meal of the Month provided by an HSP volunteer, gifts at Christmas time, and much needed household items on their “wishlist.”
Rose Garcia, Bloomingdale resident and founder of the DuPage/ Kane County chapter of Birthday Cakes 4 Free, said she was inspired to work with HSP because of her desire to reach senior citizens in need. Rose is looking to expand her chapter of Birthday Cakes 4 Free to reach out to more people in need in the community. Volunteers can assist the program by baking, purchasing, or picking up cakes or even by donating coupons.

About The Humanitarian Service Project:
HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering Project, 1,616 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 900 children. Feed the Kids provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce during the summer months. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive that benefited a total of 5,200 children by giving supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair and directly to schools and individual children.
