Sept. 9 deadline for Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest
College of DuPage is a sponsor of the 21st Annual Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest, hosted by the Hispanic Heritage Organization.
This year's essay topic is “The Importance of Education for Latino Children and Adults.” The deadline is Friday, Sept. 9, 2011. An entry form is available by clicking here.
The contest is open to all students in Illinois from grades 4 to 12, as well as college and adult education students. Twelve winners will be selected, and winners will be announced on Friday, Sept. 30, during opening ceremonies for Hispanic Heritage month on Friday, Sept. 30.
In addition to College of DuPage, this year's sponsors include Adler Planetarium, Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Zoological Society/Brookfield Zoo, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Children's Museum, Chicago History Museum, Chicago State University, Extra, The Field Museum, Lewis University, Shedd Aquarium and Target.
The Hispanic Heritage Organization was founded in 1994 to enhance education and cultural awareness for Hispanics and non-Hispanics through a variety of events held each year during the celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
