Oak Brook Rotary provides $800 Senior Sponsorship to Humanitarian Service Project

The Rotary Club of Oak Brook donated $800 for a needy senior in the Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) Senior Citizen Project. The Rotary Club of Oak Brook has been working with HSP since 1996 by raising money for senior sponsorships which provides impoverished seniors with nutritious groceries and other assistance to allow the seniors to live with more dignity.

According to Rotary International's website, the mission of the Rotary Foundation is to “advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.” The Rotary Club of Oak Brook has surely exemplified this mission with their contribution to HSP.

The 120 impoverished seniors in HSP's Senior Citizens Project receive monthly deliveries of 90 lbs. of groceries that include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products. The seniors also receive a monthly “Secret Pal” gift and a Meal of the Month provided by HSP's volunteers.

Karole Kettering, Executive Director of HSP said, “The Rotary Club of Oak Brook has provided so much help to HSP over the years and we are so thankful to have such great friends and supporters for our needy seniors in the Senior Citizen Project.”

About The Humanitarian Service Project:

HSP has been given the highest Four Star rating by Charity Navigator for the sixth consecutive year. HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering Project, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce during the summer months. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive that benefited a total of 5,200 children by giving supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair and directly to schools and individual children.
