Naperville club to fund birthdays for needy kids
Naperville Newcomers & Neighbors Club (NNNC) donated $1,200 to the Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) Children's Birthday Project. NNNC has worked with HSP since 1995 by funding child sponsorships in the Children's Birthday Project and conducting toy drives to benefit the Carol Stream-based charity.
Karole Kettering, Executive Director of HSP said, “We are so grateful and proud to have these great contributors to community and local charities working with us to provide wonderful birthday's to these needy children who really deserve it.”
The funds will be used for HSP's Children's Birthday Project which provides a child ages 3-12 with a 25-30 lb. Birthday Box containing 6 new books, 6-15 new toys, school supplies, stuffed animals, one new game, various other gifts such as bubbles, card games, mini toys, and a Party-in-a-Box filled with all the items necessary to have a birthday party. The child receives the birthday package the week of their birthday, and provides a memorable “Special Day” for an impoverished child in our community. A sponsorship for a child is only $54 and also includes gifts at Christmas time, back-to-school supplies, and the child's family becomes eligible for the HSP's summer-time Feed the Kids Program as well.
The Naperville Newcomers & Neighbors Club was able to raise majority of their money for a child sponsorship through a “Make, Bake & Buy” silent auction fundraiser that they held in November. During NNNC's calendar year of 09-10, their members raised more than $10,000 which funded four scholarships to seniors from Naperville's school districts 203 and 204, as well as eight local charities including HSP. Sue Maloney, from NNNC said, “We have a long-standing relationship with HSP and we believe in their mission to serve needy children, seniors and families in our community.”

About The Humanitarian Service Project
HSP is given the highest honor charity by Charity Navigator for the sixth consecutive year. HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
