Henry Johnson, Two for Brazil at the MAC Feb. 18

Chicago greats Henry Johnson and The Organ Express and Two for Brazil, featuring Paulinho Garcia and Greg Fishman, close out a week-long celebration of the best of Chicago jazz with a concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, on the Mainstage of the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.

Chicago-born Henry Johnson began playing guitar at 12, quickly rising through the ranks to perform with some of the top players of jazz, including Ramsey Lewis, Joe Williams and Vanessa Ruben. His debut recording, “You're the One,” reached number one on both the Radio and Records NAC chart and the Contemporary Jazz Chart. The album also garnered a five-star rating from “Downbeat” magazine.

Jazz guitar greats Paulinho Garcia and Greg Fishman merge jazz with the musical influences of Brazil, creating an amazing, elegant style.

Brazilian-born Garcia began his musical career at age 9 as a singer. After moving to the U.S., he composed, arranged, produced and performed jingles for HP Studios. He founded Jazzmineiro in 1991 and has performed worldwide with various musicians, including Fishman.

Chicago-born Fishman is an acclaimed saxophonist and flutist and is the foremost expert on Stan Getz. He has performed with Louis Bellson, Clark Terry, the Woody Herman Band and several other well-known jazz artists.

Tickets to Henry Johnson and The Organ Express and Two for Brazil featuring Paulinho Garcia and Greg Fishman are $30 for adults, $28 for seniors and $20 for College of DuPage students and youth.
