COD alum Dave Govertsen offers recital Feb. 11

College of DuPage graduate Dave Govertsen and choral director Lee Kesselman will collaborate in a recital of Franz Schubert's “Die Winterreise” from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb. 11 in Room 139 of the McAninch Arts Center at the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

The free concert features one of Schubert's final works, composed just before his death at the age of 31. Texts and translations for the 70-minute long “Die Winterreise” will be projected during the performance.

Wheaton-native Govertsen is a master's student at Northwestern University. He has sung in 10 productions with DuPage Opera Theater and in dozens of concerts with New Classic Singers. In April, he performs in “Otello” with the Chicago Symphony and joins the Ryan Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago next season.

Kesselman, of Glen Ellyn, joined the COD music faculty in 1981. In addition to composing and conducting, he studied vocal accompanying at the University of Southern California under Gwendolyn Koldofsky. He has performed with Maria Lagios, Robert Smith, Cynthia Anderson, Dona Bruno, Lorna MacDonald and others.
