Golf outing raises funds for CLC scholarships

The College of Lake County Foundation's annual Golf Classic in Honor of Richard J. Galla, held June 1 at the Ivanhoe Golf Club in Mundelein, generated more than $60,000 for CLC student scholarships, according to Karen Schmidt, executive director of the foundation.

The 2015 event generated twice the net revenue compared to the previous year and drew 148 golfers, nearly double the number of golfers as last year. In addition, many Lake County dignitaries attended, including elected officials and members of the CLC Board of Trustees.

"The success of our golf classic is due to the leadership of the foundation golf committee members Rob Hauswirth (committee chair), David Galla, Bob Werdan and Darrell Katz," Schmidt said.

"We set two goals - to reach 144 golfers and to double our net proceeds - and through the support of our CLC Foundation board members and community supporters, we were able to reach these goals, translating to more life-changing scholarships for CLC students," golf committee chair Rob Hauswirth said.

The event was held in honor of the late Richard J. Galla, former president of R.J. Galla Company Inc., an avid golfer and longtime supporter of the College of Lake County.

"CLC was my father's lifelong passion. He believed in the importance of a college education, that is why he set up a scholarship in my parents' name. Seeing you all here today keeps his legacy alive," said David Galla, president of R.J. Galla Company, son of Richard J. Galla and a CLC Foundation board member.

The event featured three $10,000 cash hole-in-one prize contests and three car hole-in-one prizes. Thanks to Libertyville Chevrolet, golfers had a chance to take home a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro, 2015 Chevrolet Impala and 2015 Chevrolet Traverse.
