American English, others added to CLC's spring lineup

Three new events have been added to the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts Professional Touring Series at the College of Lake County for Spring Semester 2015.

The new shows are The United States Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 7, (a free concert); Mark Nizer 4D, A New Dimension in Entertainment at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 25; and American English, The Complete Beatles Tribute, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28.

The James Lumber Box Office is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays until Tuesday, Dec. 23. The college will be closed for winter break from Wednesday, Dec. 24, through Sunday, Jan. 4. Free tickets for the Jazz Ambassadors will be available the first full week of January.

The spring semester Professional Touring Season will feature the following eight events. Ticket prices range from $24 to $44, with three different price levels available for Mainstage theater shows. For information, call (847) 543-2300 or visit www.clcillinois.edu/tickets.

• Switchback: 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, in Studio Theatre. In this Americana program, Brian FitzGerald and Martin McCormack draw on their songwriting and harmonies to play a repertoire that ranges from sentimental ballads to blistering rock songs, reflecting both their Midwestern roots and Irish heritage.

• The Golden Dragon Acrobats present Cirque Ziva: 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20. Acrobatics are featured in this fast-paced, technically innovative and beautifully presented new show, which enjoyed a five-week run at Broadway's New Victory Theatre.

• The United States Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors: 7 p.m. Saturday, March 7. Enjoy a free concert by the internationally acclaimed Jazz Ambassadors of Washington, D.C., the official touring big band of the United States Army. Formed in 1969, this 19-member ensemble has received great acclaim at home and abroad performing jazz. This is a free concert but tickets are required. Contact the Box Office for complete details.

• Broadway's Next H!T Musical: 8 p.m. Friday, March 13. A team of master improvisers create an evening of music and laughter gathered from made-up, hit song suggestions from the audience, turning it into a full-blown improvised musical.

• Mark Nizer 4D: A New Dimension in Entertainment: 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 25. Whether juggling laser beams at 1,000 r.p.m.s, or five Ping-Pong balls being thrown 20 feet in the air using only his mouth, audiences will be astonished by comedian and juggler Mark Nizer. In this show, he uses black lights, special effects and the magic of 3-D and even 4D. Mark has opened for Jerry Seinfeld, Bob Hope, John Byner, Gladys Knight, The Temptations, Johnny Mathis, Ray Charles and Barry Manilow. Note the special matinee time for this spring break show.

• American English, The Complete Beatles Tribute: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28. Performing songs covering the entire career of The Beatles from 1963-1970, and with precise attention to every musical detail, along with costume changes, vintage instruments and special effects, American English is the closest you will ever get to reliving The Beatles.

• The Second City Hits Home: 8 p.m. Friday, April 10. Chicago's famous comedy troupe serves up comedic twists on today's headlines to keep audiences giggling.

• I've Got A Little Twist: 8 p.m. Saturday, May 9, in Studio Theatre. The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players perform a comedic mash-up cabaret of musical hits: "The Mikado" meets "The Music Man" and "HMS Pinafore" sets sail for "Brigadoon." The show highlights how the themes, satire and music of Gilbert and Sullivan fit perfectly into the modern world.
