Westminster Christian clinches NAC title

Championship week continued on the positive side of things for the Westminster Christian girls basketball team Friday night.

On the heels of securing the Elgin City Classic championship earlier in the week, the Warriors Friday clinched the Northeastern Athletic Conference title by beating Christian Liberty 49-32, the first conference championship in any sport for a Westminster girls team.

McKaila Hays had 15 points and 4 steals for Westminster, while Maddie Versluys added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Kinsley Donahue added 10 points for the Warriors (15-4, 7-0).

Elgin 58, Elgin Academy 25: Kristin Tayag had 13 points and Maggie Powers added 10 as Elgin finished 3-1 in the Elgin City Classic. Abby Pierre-Louis added 9 points for the Maroons (7-14). Elizabeth Clements had 8 points to lead Elgin Academy (9-11).

Burlington Central 55, Genoa-Kingston 19: The Rockets took another step toward securing their first conference championship since 2007 with this Big Northern East win. Kayla Ross and Alison Colby had 11 points each for BC (18-4, 4-0), while Shelby Holt added 10.

Rosary 51, St. Edward 47: St. Edward fell behind 21-7 and could never come all the way back in losing this Suburban Christian Blue game. Clarissa Ramos and Cece Rapp had 14 points each for the Green Wave (2-20, 1-7) and Rena Ranallo added 12.

Larkin 34, Harvest Christian 31: Kylee Knox had 11 points and Rachel Oostdyk added 9 for Harvest Christian (2-18) in this Elgin City Classic game.

McHenry 58, Dundee-Crown 55: Jess Laboy scored 12 points to lead Dundee-Crown in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division. Jordan Bartelt and Emily Michalski added 10 points each for the Chargers (2-18, 0-8). Melissa Barker added 9 points for D-C, which played without leading scorer Jillian Weichmann (injured shoulder).
