Eight golfers who finished in the top 15 at the MSL meet are back this fall — Prospect’s Noreen Caporusso (75, tie for second), Barrington’s Heather Ciskowski (76, tie for fourth), Buffalo Grove’s Grace Kil (76, tie for fourth), Prospect’s Kiley Walsh (81, seventh), Fremd’s Angie Kim (85, eighth), Fremd’s Jennifer Kim (88, tied for 12th), Barrington’s Kelly Umphred (89, tied for 14th), Buffalo Grove’s Courtney Meyer (89, tied for 14th), Conant’s Carly Bryeans (89, tie for 14th).

Outlook: Prospect is trying for a fifth consecutive MSL crown under coach Jim Hamann. The Knights won last year at the Bonnie Dundee Golf Course in Carpentersville with a score of 309, finishing ahead of the runner-up Fillies (323) and Fremd (348). Fremd has been a top challenger this season. The only loss for coach Christine Vlaming’s Vikings was to Prospect. Fremd held a 2-stroke lead after the first two groups finished at the Mt. Prospect Golf Course last Tuesday before the Knights triumphed 160-162 for their 62nd consecutive MSL win. The next day, Prospect defeated Barrington to finish 11-0 for the fifth straight time. Hamann said the MSL meet is always a first goal. The Knights appear to have the depth to contend for yet another crown. Eleven different Knights have counted their scores at some point in a meet this season. That is the most for Hamann in his seven years directing the program.

The list includes Kiley Walsh, Noreen Caporusso, Ally Scaccia, Emma Menich, Noelle Johnston, Isabella Flack, Kacie O’Donnell, Jenny Geraghty, Bridget Brassil, Jackie Surelta and Erin Runde. Prospect’s schoool-record 147 in a dual meet with Hersey was the lowest by an MSL team this season for nine holes. The meet will be played at the Buffalo Grove Golf Club, home to the Bison and Grace Kil, who tied for fourth in the MSL meet a year ago. “It’s a longer course, 5,700 yards for girls which poses a challenge for them there,” said Bison five-year coach Matt Myers. “And water can come into play. It’s a challenge but it’s fair. It will be fun to watch.”
