Girls golf / Scouting the Mid-Suburban League tournament

What: Mid-Suburban League tournament

Where: Bonnie Dundee Golf Club, Carpentersville

When: 8:30 a.m. today

2010 champion: Prospect (329)

2010 individual champion: Rachel Kaim (Elk Grove) won in the first hole of a playoff after shooting 79 to tie Prospect’s Allison Walsh.

The course: Bonnie Dundee is the home course for Barrington. “I think it’s a really fair test for the whole field of teams,” said Fillies Hall of Fame coach Jodi Schoeck, whose team will play in two other tourneys at Bonnie Dundee this fall, too. “The course can play a little long but if you keep it in the fairway, the length is not an issue. The whole staff at Bonnie Dundee is so supportive and really helps us out They have given us a shotgun start on a weekday, which is a great thing for which we are really grateful.”

They’re back: Nine golfers who finished in the top 15 at last year’s MSL meet are back this fall — Prospect’s Allison Walsh (79, tie for first), Fremd’s Angie Kim (82, tie for fourth), Barrington’s Sammy Carman (84, tie for sixth), Buffalo Grove’s Grace Kil (86, eighth), Hersey’s Nikki Gierman (87, ninth), Prospect’s Christine Garmoe and Noreen Caporusso (88, tie for 12th) and Schaumburg’s Emily Santucci (90, 15th).

Fore in a row? Prospect is shooting for its fourth straight MSL crown under coach Jim Hamann, who is in his seventh season. The Knights have gone undefeated in MSL dual meets for the fourth straight year with an 11-0 record. They have won 49 straight duals since a 2007 loss to Barrington. “The kids take a lot of pride in our conference matches,” Hamann said. “There is a lot of talent and new coaches in our conference this season. All of the coaches in the MSL do a tremendous job.” Allison Walsh, who recently made a verbal commitment to Bradley, and Christine Garmoe, posted the top two scores for the Knights on the Bonnie Dundee course last week when the Knights defeated Barrington in the final dual meet. Walsh shot 36 while Garmoe had a 37.

A top newcomer: Barrington sophomore Heather Ciskowski was playing No. 1 doubles in the state tennis meet last fall. Her love for golf resulted in a switch this fall and she made quite an introduction. Ciskowski fired a 75 and placed second to state contender Grace Kil at Conant’s Early Bird tournament at the Fox Run Golf Links in Elk Grove. Freshman Julia Calbi also got off to a fast start for the Fillies, recording a 78 in the Early Bird. She tied for fourth with Fremd’s Angie Kim. Today, she makes her debut in the MSL conference meet.

A top veteran: Grace Kil, the MSL’s highest finisher in the 2010 state meet (seventh place), wasted no time showing she was ready for her junior season. Kil’s first swing of the season was a 236-yard drive that landed one foot from the par-4 16th hole at Fox Run Golf Links in Elk Grove. She went on to record a 72 to win the Early Bird tournament by 3 strokes. She will be another top contender for today’s top individual prize.
