Rotary Club of Central Dupage Donates $1000 to Sponsor a Senior in Humanitarian Service Project's Program

The Rotary Club of Central Dupage donated $1000 to the Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) Senior Citizen Project to sponsor an impoverished senior in the program. The club, which meets on Wednesdays at 7 AM at the Cantigny Golf Club Restaurant in Wheaton, has supported HSP since at least 1996 through various fundraisers and has been sponsoring a needy senior citizen through HSP's program since 1999.

The mission of the Rotary Foundation is to bring understanding, goodwill, and peace to the world through the promotion of health and education and the alleviation of poverty. The Rotary Club of Central Dupage is involved in numerous initiatives to fulfill these aspirations of the Rotary Foundation both locally and internationally. Recent service projects of the club include granting college scholarships to two local students, and funding a home for a needy family of 10 in Haiti. The club has been a faithful partner of HSP and the needy seniors it serves for at least 15 years.

The 120 impoverished seniors in HSP's Senior Citizen Project receive monthly deliveries of 90 lbs. of groceries that include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products. The seniors also receive a monthly “Secret Pal” gift and a Meal of the Month provided by HSP's volunteers.

Karole Kettering, HSP Founder and Executive Director, feels so fortunate for the continued partnership with the Rotary Club of Central Dupage. She said, “We at HSP are so thrilled to have the continued support of the Rotary Club of Central Dupage. It makes such a huge impact in the health and happiness of the needy senior they support.”

About The Humanitarian Service Project

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
