American Wind Band to hold spring concert April 24 in Elmhurst

American Wind Band will perform its spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road in Elmhurst.

Admission is free and donations toward the band's operations are very much appreciated.

American Wind Band, an adult community band based in Downers Grove, was created to promote and encourage the understanding and appreciation of concert band literature through performance.

Music to be performed includes a wide variety of types of music and composers.

Opening the concert is the contemporary "Festivo" by Vaclav Nelhybel, a Czech-American composer. There also will be excerpts from George Gershwin's opera, "Porgy and Bess"; a Sousa march, Johann Strauss II "Die Fledermaus," and for Broadway fans, "Richard Rogers: A Symphonic Portrait."

This summer, the band will be performing after the parade at the Downers Grove Memorial Day services on Monday, May 30, at Fishel Park.

Join them on Sunday, June 12, for an outdoor concert at 3 p.m. at the American Legion Post 80, 4000 Saratoga Ave. in Downers Grove.
