DuPage County Woodworkers make Christmas toys for needy kids

The DuPage County Woodworkers, a group of about 180 men and women, meet once a month at 7 p.m. at St. James the Apostle Parish, 480 Park Blvd., Glen Ellyn.

At the meetings, they share ideas and learn techniques, as well as make wooden toys and gifts for Christmas gifts for needy children.

On Nov. 19, they will be giving away more than 2,000 Christmas gifts to local organizations.

The group generally meets the third Monday of the month. There will be no meeting in December. Enter through door 12 on the south side of the building.

To support its motto, "Learning by Sharing," business at the meetings is kept to a minimum so that they can focus on "show and tell," where members can share their project and explain it to the attendees for admiration and questions.

After a short break for refreshments, the evening's program begins, generally a demonstration of some aspect of the woodworking process.

You don't have to live in DuPage County to be a member. They have members from as far away as Dundee, Chicago and Olympia Fields.
