Humanitarian Service Project seeks secret pals for seniors

Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) is looking for 16 individuals or groups to be secret pals for their Senior Citizen Project (SCP). Secret pals bring gifts every month to the HSP for a needy senior citizen and a volunteer delivers it to their home along with the senior's monthly package of groceries.

Secret pal gifts generally cost anywhere from $5-$25. They can include anything from items on the senior's wish list to a gift certificate to anything the donor will think the senior would like. Gifts have included: pillows, gift cards, scarves, postage stamps, pots and pans, picture frames, crossword books, plants, and slippers.

These little acts of kindness can mean the world to an impoverished senior struggling to live on a meager income. “Thank you so very much for the gift of a pair of jeans. Your surprise for me was amazing. It was just what I needed. I haven't had a new pair in a long time,” wrote Joann, a senior in HSP's program. “

The HSP's Senior Citizen Project delivers 90 pounds of groceries to needy seniors each month. The monthly grocery package includes: seven juicy fruits and eight fresh vegetables, frozen meat, fresh bread, non-perishable food, personal care items and the secret pal gift.

We invite you to be a part of the Secret Pal program and help support the needy seniors in your community! Please call us at (630) 221-8340 or email hsp@humanitarianservice.org. For more information, please visit our website at www.humanitarianservice.org.
