New mobile technology, Cloud Apps courses at COD

The Computer Information Systems program at College of DuPage will offer three new classes starting in January that deal with cutting-edge mobile technology and Cloud computing applications.

The CIS program developed these credit classes in response to demand for curriculum addressing emerging technologies and the power built into mobile devices.

“The goal of Introduction to iPhone Technology is to transform an iPhone user into a power user,” said Mary Ann Zlotow, professor and coordinator, College of DuPage CIS program. “Introduction to Web Technologies and Cloud Computing Concepts explores applications such as GoogleDocs and the services that have revolutionized the Web from a source of information into a social media phenomenon, and iPhone Application Development teaches students how to create programs for the iPhone.”

The courses were developed for both CIS students and community members and are offered once a week during the evening to accommodate busy schedules.

“We know these classes have appeal for people who want to expand their skills and keep up with new technology,” Zlotow said. “The courses are equally suited to someone who just wants to know more about the iPhone and Web 2.0 for personal use. We are also planning a course in application development for Android in the near future.”

Introduction to Web Technologies and Cloud Computing Concepts (CIS 1820) meets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning Jan. 18. Introduction to iPhone Technology (CIS 1820) meets at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning Jan. 19, and iPhone/iPod Application Development (CIS 2840) meets at 6 p.m. on Fridays starting Jan. 14.
