COD Fashion Students Hit the Runway with 'Kaleidoscopic' on May 13

College of DuPage Fashion Studies students will showcase their original designs during "Kaleidoscopic," the annual fashion show that will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13, in the Student Resource Center, Room 2000, on the College's main campus in Glen Ellyn.

Fashion Studies Lecturer Melissa Heischberg, who is coordinating this year's event, said the theme was selected by last year's Fashion Promotion class.

"This year's theme, 'Kaleidoscopic,' can be interpreted by our students in many different ways," she said. "Some people think of color, others think of pattern, shape or how color flows. We are pushing students to be creative and define 'kaleidoscopic' in their own ways. Because this year's theme can represent so many different interpretations, I'm looking forward to what our students create."

Leslie Drummond, a graduate of COD's program, will be this year's featured designer. She will work with students and present her latest collection at the end of the show.

Students from COD's Cosmetology program again will once again assist with hair and makeup for the event. For the first time, the Fashion Studies program will work with an outside agency, the Maria Bonita Modeling Agency in Aurora, which is providing 12 models for the show.

"The owner was taking a class at College of DuPage and she saw a flier for the show," Heischberg said. "Her team is volunteering their time and are working alongside our students and other volunteers."

At the end of the event, awards will be presented to COD students in a variety of categories.

General seating for the COD Fashion Show is $15 for adults, $10 for students with an ID, and $5 for children 12 and under.

In conjunction with the show, the Fashion Studies program is hosting a charity clothing drive for the nonprofit Dress for Success during the three weeks leading up to the show and at the show itself. Gently used, professional clothing can be dropped off at donation bins located in the Student Services Center Atrium near Campus Central, the entrance to the Library on the north side of the Student Resource Center, the McAninch Arts Center Lobby and the lower level lobby of the Student Resource Center near the Bookstore and Fashion Studies program area. Clothing can also be brought the night of the show.
