COD Outstanding Divisional Faculty Members and Advisers for 2014-2015
Twenty faculty members and advisers have been recognized as the 2014-2015 Outstanding Divisional Faculty Members and Outstanding Advisers at College of DuPage.
The faculty and advisers were selected for their excellence in teaching, service to the College, scholarly activities, community service and advising skills. OUTSTANDING DIVISIONAL FULL-TIME FACULTY MEMBERS
Bill Carmody (Glen Ellyn), Professor of Business Law, Business and Technology Division
Bill Carmody has contributed to both his division and College of DuPage by his continued leadership in the Business Law area, including his work with part-time faculty. He has updated his program and worked with other adjunct faculty to assure the latest changes in Business Law are incorporated into the curriculum.
Michael Foss (Countryside), Associate Professor of Automotive Service Technology, Business and Technology Division
Michael Foss conducts himself as a professional in the auto repair industry and carries that attitude into the classroom. He is the coordinator of the Automotive Service Technology program and is well-respected as a certified auto mechanic. Foss creates new auto classes that address the needs of the industry, and he resolves real-life auto problems with confidence and strategic thinking.
Dilyss Gallyot (Elmhurst), Professor of Nursing, Health and Sciences Division
Dilyss Gallyot works tirelessly as a leader in the Nursing program. She recently prepared an audio recording to help nursing and health sciences students learn EKGs. As the Nursing curriculum chairperson, she helped organize, write and lead faculty in the Associate Degree in Nursing program curriculum revision. Gallyot is the Student Nurses Association adviser and participates on the Native American Studies Committee, Women's Studies Committee and Faculty Senate.
Carolyn Soo (Naperville), Professor of Mathematics, Health and Sciences Division
Carolyn Soo teaches the full range of math courses, from arithmetic through differential equations, and challenges students to ask more of themselves. She works in the Math Assistance Area and helps students not currently studying with her. Soo played an important role in the design and implementation of the Developmental Math Lab, and most recently she was a key contributor to a parallel developmental algebra course for non-STEM students.
Danica Hubbard (Naperville), Professor of English, Liberal Arts Division
As a teacher of Developmental Reading, Danica Hubbard works diligently to motivate her students to achieve academically and prepares them for productive lives after they leave COD. Her work on developing online versions of English 1101 and 1102 earned her the International Blackboard Catalyst Award for Exemplary Course Design. She recently worked with the Criminal Justice program to develop a Learning Community that will be offered in Fall 2015.
Helen Feng (Lisle), Professor of History, Liberal Arts Division
Celebrating 30 years of teaching at College of DuPage, Helen Feng is the coordinator of the Honors Program, working with colleagues to develop new criteria for Honors courses and mentoring faculty in developing course proposals. She guides students in the Honors program and was instrumental in creating an Honors Student Advisory Committee. Feng will serve as Chair of the Honors Council of the Illinois Region during the 2015-16 academic year.
Carol Giegerich (Naperville), Student Success Counselor, Student Affairs Division
Carol Giegerich maintains a level head while coming up with solutions as a Student Success Counselor. She helps the division office with scheduling and managing staff time while working with both faculty and administration to help them meet their goals. Geigerich has served with distinction on the following committees: Community Resources, Group Program for Registration, Student Success Workshop, Group Testing, and the Standards of Academic Progress.
OUTSTANDING DIVISIONAL PART-TIME FACULTY MEMBERS
Naveeda Athar (Carol Stream), Human Services Instructor, Health and Sciences Division
Naveeda Athar incorporates a variety of activities into her courses that teach her students how to become effective members of the helping community. Athar's emphasis on relationship-building helps her students develop a sense of community and appreciation of multicultural diversity.
Nancy Farber (Naperville), Culinary Arts Instructor, Business and Technology Division
Nancy Farber provides a rigorous learning experience that prepares her students to thrive in the Pastry Arts industry. She keeps current with trends, seeks out professional development opportunities nationally, and consistently tests and revises each formula and product.
Robert Fultz (Lisle), Manufacturing Technology Instructor, Business and Technology Division
Robert Fultz brings the most current techniques and technologies to the Manufacturing program. He often donates his own time to implement these new technologies into the current curriculum as well as support for internal events promoting manufacturing program advising, student success and career awareness.
Mark Pusinelli (Western Springs), Computer Instructor, Continuing Education Division
Mark Pusinelli has been an adjunct faculty member in Continuing Education for many years. Pusinelli is intelligent, informative and patient, and he is always willing to help his students.
Jeremy Croy (Elmhurst), Criminal Justice Instructor, Health and Sciences Division
During the past three years, Jeremy Croy has taught Juvenile Delinquency, Criminal Investigation, Gangs and the Criminal Justice System, Continuity of Operations, and Introduction to Homeland Security as adjunct faculty. He includes current event analysis as a routine part of his classes.
Sandra Kurby (Carol Stream), Physical Education Instructor, Health and Sciences Division
Sandra Kurby, a registered and licensed dietician, teaches a variety of Physical Education classes, including activity classes such as weight training and spinning as well as lecture classes such as Healthy Eating, Kinesiology and Performance Nutrition. She has introduced new training techniques into her classes to keep the curriculum current and fresh.
Jill Dziak (Bolingbrook), Physical Therapy Assistant Instructor, Health and Sciences Division
A graduate of the College's PTA program, Jill Dziak is a certified brain injury specialist and works as a physical therapy assistant at ResCare Premiere Rehabilitation Center. In 2013, she served as interim full-time faculty/coordinator of the PTA program, and she was instrumental in working with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
Barbara Myers (LaGrange Park), English and ESL Instructor, Liberal Arts Division
Barbara Myers brings to her students a diverse range of experiences as a professional communicator in business, health and the non-profit sectors. She teaches a wide range of courses, including composition, writing for the workplace and writing for the web. She also takes the lead on various initiatives, including helping to plan the first adjunct conference on the teaching of writing next fall.
Robert Buitron (Geneva), Fine and Applied Arts Instructor, Liberal Arts Division
Robert Buitron began his career as a film-based photographer but has transitioned to digital arts, sharing his enthusiasm for and knowledge of digital photography with students. As an active professional in the field, he teaches students both the creative and the professional side of photography.
Zerrin Bulut (Oak Park), Humanities Instructor, Liberal Arts Division
Zerrin Bulut brings a caring nature, enthusiasm and creativity into her classroom. She actively supports many co-curricular activities at the College and has served as a member of the planning team for French Immersion Day.
Roberta "Bobbie" Rudnick (Naperville), Reference Librarian, Learning Resources
When Roberta "Bobbie" Rudnick joined the Library staff, she already had more than 13 years of experience working as a reference librarian in Indiana, New Jersey and in Illinois at the Naperville Public Library. She assists with collection development, reference assistance and classroom instruction in areas related to business, the humanities and social sciences.
OUTSTANDING ADVISERS
Cheryl Jackson (Olympia Fields), Professor of Health Information Technology, Health and Science Division
Cheryl Jackson is a registered health information administrator (RHIA) as well as a certified coding specialist (CCS). She has served as the past President of the Chicago Area Health Information Management Association and was honored as Distinguished Member in 2005. She researches African-American history and storytelling and has chaired the African American Read-In at College of DuPage for many years.
Donna Manning (Woodridge), Student Success Counselor, Counseling and Advising
Donna Manning, a part-time Student Success Counselor, joined the faculty of Counseling and Advising after many years as a high school counselor at Hinsdale Central High School. She holds an M.S.Ed. degree in Counselor Education from Northern Illinois University. Currently, Manning meets with students on the main campus in Glen Ellyn and also serves students at the Westmont Regional Center.
